Ocean observing in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bays plays an essential role in supporting regional economic activity. MARACOOS shares this part of the region with NERACOOS (Northeastern Regional Association Coastal Ocean Observing
System) Data collected by MARACOOS, NERACOOS and local partners are accessible in raw form and in decision-support tools such as the Rhode Island Oceans SAMP Viewer to coastal managers, ship pilots, commercial and recreational fishermen
and others. MARACOOS supports development of robust coastal observing systems and data products that boost economic growth and enhance recreational and tourism opportunities in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bays region.

Northeast Ocean Data Portal
A Decision-Support Tool for government agencies, industries, non-government organizations, academic entities, and individuals. Provides peer-reviewed data and interactive maps of the ocean ecosystem and ocean-related human activities including: commercial fishing, marine transportation, energy and infrastructure, aquaculture, recreation, restoration, cultural resources, national security, water quality, bathymetry, eelgrass, and habitat classification.

STORMTOOLS – RI Shoreline Change Special Area Management Plan
Illustrates and displays storm inundation, with and without sea level rise, for different types of storms that could occur along Rhode Island’s coast line. Developed for residents, municipal officials, and decision makers to better understand their risk from coastal inundation.
