Celebrating the 2025 ACT Student Conference Awardees

MARACOOS and the Atlantic Cooperative Telemetry (ACT) Network are proud to announce the winners of the 2025 ACT Network Conference Awards! Established in 2022, this award program was created to expand opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in scientific conferences relevant to marine and estuarine animal telemetry. The award is designed to support students presenting research tied to MARACOOS focus areas or seeking professional development in animal telemetry science.

This year there were four recipients, all who demonstrated a strong commitment to marine science and animal telemetry research:

  • Ben Gowell from the University of New England will be attending the American Fisheries Society (AFS) Conference in San Antonio, TX.
  • Rachel Kelmartin from George Mason University will be attending the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) Conference in Richmond, VA.
  • Jake Mathews from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will be attending the International Conference on Fish Telemetry (ICFT) in Traverse City, MI.
  • Brittney Scannell from Stony Brook University will also be attending the ICFT in Traverse City, MI.

These students have shown dedication to advancing telemetry research. To learn more about each winner and their research interests, visit the ACT Network Student Conference Award page.

Congratulations to all the recipients! We look forward to seeing the impact of their work in the marine science community.
